Towards a Sovereign European Cloud-to-Edge Continuum

NOUS FINAL EVENT: Towards a Sovereign European Cloud-to-Edge Continuum

NOUS (A Catalyst for European Cloud Services in the Era of Data Spaces, High-Performance and Edge Computing) is a Horizon Europe-funded initiative developing a federated and sovereign European cloud ecosystem. The project integrates edge computing, High-Performance Computing (HPC), and emerging quantum resources to provide scalable computing and storage capabilities across the full cloud-to-edge continuum. Through its open-source architecture, secure networking, and interoperability with initiatives such as Gaia-X, FIWARE, EOSC, and European Data Spaces, NOUS enables trusted, privacy-preserving, and efficient data management. It supports researchers, public authorities, and industry in processing and sharing large-scale data workloads while strengthening Europe’s digital sovereignty.

The NOUS Final Event will present the project’s main achievements, technological developments, and long-term impact. Participants will gain insights into:

  • Advanced orchestration of HPC resources
  • Intelligent and adaptive edge processing
  • Secure and sovereign data management
  • The NOUS open-source architecture, available through Eclipse Research Labs’ GitLab

The event will also showcase four representative use cases:

  • Connected Vehicle Perception
  • Energy Prediction and Data Lifecycle Management
  • Crisis Management and Civil Protection
  • Scientific Data Management, HPC Storage, and AI Analytics

The session will highlight NOUS collaborations with related European initiatives and explore how its open-source results can support future research, innovation, and industrial applications in sovereign distributed computing and AI.

The event will take place on the morning of Friday, 23 October. The final timing will be confirmed in the coming weeks.
