Special Session on Revolutionising Carbon Farming by Nature-Based Business Models and Emerging Innovations in the field of artificial intelligence, satellite and green technologies (INNO4CFIS)

Scope

The aim of this special session is to present the pioneering work of the project INNO4CFIs, which is promoting carbon farming and nature-based business models, technology and innovation to increase CO2 uptake while nurturing vital environmental benefits like freshwater production, soil restoration, and biodiversity enhancement. Co-funded by the I3 Instrument of the European Regional Development fund (grant number: 101115156), this project fosters resilience and competitiveness in 13 European regions by carbon farming initiatives and reforestation. The objective of this session is:

  • Demonstrating how artificial intelligence, satellite and space technologies support the development of a carbon farming system with positive impact on the environment and get feedback and inputs from scientists, researchers, practitioners in the field.
  • Showcasing the methodology to redefine carbon farming and create a highly replicable and scalable business model in the Carbon Farming sector and foster the network to implement them.
  • Presenting the methodology of the 5 living labs in Spain, Italy, Greece and Belgium
  • Demonstrating the development of the Carbon Technology Platform and the scope of the cascade funding scheme.

Topics

The main topics of the session (although not limited to them) are:

  • Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT) for the carbon farming sector and reforestation to reduce the carbon footprint
  • Measuring impact in the carbon farming sector on climate resilience and environmental, social and economic benefits by satellite and space technologies
  • Developing a regenerative way of carbon farming and reforestation that ensures the positive impact on the environment and offers climate resilience
  • Desalination-, mycelium- and green technologies for enhancement of soil health, water availability and biodiversity
  • Development of a new way of carbon credits
  • Presenting the methodology of the Peer2Peer platform, a 360° Green Solution model that secures the exchange and management of carbon credits between individuals
  • Distributed Ledger technologies and smart contract execution
  • Methodology of demonstration in 5 living hubs
  • Financing other green technologies by a cascade funding scheme
