Information
Scope
A digital revolution in industry is underway, characterized by a rapid technological evolution related to production processes. Industries are, consequently, being driven to transform themselves into Factories of the Future, i.e, by being highly flexible to any type of process and product, quickly adaptable to external changes (such as alterations to structural technical specifications of the product), reaching a high degree of sustainability with regard to environmental impact and resource consumption and, at the same time, bring competitive from the economic point of view. These new Factories of the Future must be intelligent and equipped with productive systems with global connectivity, allowing human intervention in repetitive tasks to be replaced by intelligent equipment and the operator's role being fundamental for optimizing the information management of the implemented technological tools, thus generating a highly efficient and effective production process. SmartFoF aims at providing an advanced discussion forum, bringing together the perspective from both Academia and the Industry, on recent and innovative work addressing the transition towards Factories of the Future. Special relevance is indorsed to solutions related to digitization and computing (exploring Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) technologies, cloud computing, digital twin, data analytics, protocol layers and industrial management), cybersecurity, symbiotic Man-Machine and Man-Factory relationship.
